Drastic changes in tissue material properties are crucial in development and disease. Rigidity percolation theory, a concept used in material science, can accurately probe material phase transitions in vivo in the zebrafish blastoderm. The image shows a connectivity map of the early zebrafish embryo, where the different rigid areas are highlighted (magenta).
