Optical Setup (IMAGE) Optica Caption Pictured is the optical setup used to create silver-silicone microwires with the electrical conductivity of metal and the elasticity of a polymer. The researchers used femtosecond laser pulses, which come through the objective lens underneath the stage, to create the microstructures. The LED light source is used to monitor the structure, which is displayed on the computer screen on the right. Note that the bright light source above the stage is not a femtosecond laser, but a LED light for illumination for the monitoring.
