The Center for Tropical Forest Science-Smithsonian Institution Global Earth Observatories is a network of more than 30 large, long-term forest dynamics monitoring sites managed by universities and research centers in 20 countries. Ecologists worldwide use methods developed by Hubbell and Foster in 1979 in Panama to understand the origin and maintenance of biodiversity, and to monitor global change.
