In breast cancer screening, the pressure to which the breast is subjected varies depending on whether rigid or flexible plates are used. The computer graphic on the left shows the pressure exerted by rigid plates, while the image in the center represents the pressure data for flexible plates. The higher the pressure, the lighter the color. The image on the right shows the appearance of a rigid plate and under it, a flexible plate.
