Distinguishable (Left) and Indistinguishable (Right) Photons (IMAGE)
Caption
The vertical sequence of frames (bands) on the left presents two individual, distinguishable photons (green spots) appearing randomly together on one side, together on the other side, or on opposite sides of a beam-splitting plate (imaged in the middle of each band as a line separating the areas corresponding to the two sides of the plate). In the sequence of frames on the right, the two photons were indistinguishable and as a consequence were paired together.
