Research scientists overlooking the vast expanse of Leverett Glacier, an outlet glacier of the Greenland Ice Sheet. Ice sheets cover ten percent of the global land surface. Far from being extremely cold, sterile locations, the newly published results indicate that they could be a more important component of global elemental cycles than previously appreciated.
