Roseらの結果は、短期記憶が存在するにはその記憶に対応するニューロンを持続的に活性化させておかねばならない、という説を覆した。そうではなく、その記憶を支持する神経活動は、思い出そうとしている人がその記憶に意識的に注意を集中したときのみに生じれば良いのである。
