Experimental Setup (IMAGE) Goethe University Frankfurt Caption Experimental setup: The helium molecules are produced in a gas jet at an extremely low temperature and separated from the rest of the gas jet in a diffraction grating. The X-ray flash (red) of the FLASH laser (Hamburg) ionises both helium atoms of the molecule so that they fly apart with explosive force. The ions are then mapped on a spatial resolution detector, as symbolized by the film strip. Credit AG Dörner Usage Restrictions None.
