Fast Take: Dr John DeLuca Calls for Action on Rehabilitation Research for Progressive Multiple Sclerosis (AUDIO)
Caption
John DeLuca, PhD, senior VP of Research and Training at Kessler Foundation, joins international experts in calling for greater emphasis on rehabilitation research in progressive MS. The vast majority of studies involve people with relapsing-remitting MS, a more common chronic form of the disease. This lack of clinical data leaves people with progressive disease with few options to manage debilitating symptoms that can lead to unemployment, personal and family stress, and financial strain. The experts recommend targeting four major symptoms for developing effective therapies: fatigue, mobility and upper extremity impairment, pain, and cognitive impairment. This podcast is based on the article in Multiple Sclerosis Journal, "Prioritizing progressive MS rehabilitation research: A call from the International Progressive MS Alliance" (doi: 10.1177/1352458521999970).
