Traces of a Violent Past (IMAGE) University of Arizona Caption This animated view of Hubble Space Telescope images taken between 1993 and 2014 reveals how much the mass ejections from Eta Carinae have moved outward into space, some at a speed of 2 million miles per hour. The outermost ejecta visible in this image stem from previously unknown eruptions predating the Great Eruption of the 1840s.
