On Aug. 2, 2016, at 6:05 a.m. EDT, AIRS data measured temperatures that showed Howard's center was moving over sea surface temperatures between 77 and 78.8 F. Coldest cloud top temperatures were still in excess of minus 63 F (purple), indicating strong storms.
