Research beneath the Archbasilica of St John Lateran has revealed the hidden history of the world's first cathedral and the remarkable transformations that preceded its construction. A team of archaeologists from Newcastle University, UK, the universities of Florence and Amsterdam and the Vatican Museums, have worked far beneath the streets of Rome to piece together a pivotal moment in the history of the eternal city.
