Fig. 2 Three polyaromatic hydrocarbon molecules investigated in this work. The phenanthrene molecule (C14H10) consists of three fused benzene rings in armchair configuration. The picene and pentacene molecules (C22H14) consist of five fused benzene rings in armchair and zigzag configuration, respectively. Carbon and hydrogen atoms are in grey and orange color, respectively.
