通常、電気化学測定をするには、サンプルを溶かした電解質溶液を用意して、その中に３本の電極（作用極、参照極、対極）を差し込んで測る必要がある。しかし本システムでは、電極の上に貼ったゲル膜自身に電解質溶液としての機能があるため、電解質溶液を新たに用意する必要はない。
