H. sapho H. cydno chioneus Co-Mimics (IMAGE)
Caption
These two unrelated species of butterflies look very similar. But when the WntA gene is knocked out, the result is different for each, indicating that they are not taking the same evolutionary path to arrive at the same pattern. Heliconius sapho, (top) Heliconius cydno.chioneus (bottom) showing wings from individuals with (left) and without (right) the WntA gene.
