The biggest contribution to the negative impact (around a third) is from the emissions caused by road damage, followed by accidents and fatalities in the small-scale cobalt mining industry, according to Anna Furberg, PhD student at the Division of Environmental Systems Analysis
"Taking everything together, the picture is very clear - studded winter tyres actually cost more lives than they save," says Sverker Molander, professor at the Department of Technology Management and Economics at Chalmers.
