The Movements of a Ribosome, Captured (2 of 2) (VIDEO)
Caption
This video shows the flexibility of the genetic adaptor molecule, transfer RNA (tRNA), as it transits the protein synthesizing factory, the ribosome. The ribosome translates the 4-letter genetic code in messenger RNA, a copy of the information in DNA, into the 20-letter code of proteins. This video relates to an article that appeared in the May 20, 2011, issue of Science, published by AAAS. The study, by Dr. J.A. Dunkle at University of California at Berkeley and colleagues, was titled, "Structures of the Bacterial Ribosome in Classical and Hybrid States of tRNA Binding."
