Thick deposits of the Tierra Blanca Joven eruption (IMAGE)
Caption
Thick deposits of the Tierra Blanca Joven eruption approximately 10 km west of the vent. A few centimeters of ash fallout was deposited on soil that had been worked by the Maya. The remainder of material was deposited by pyroclastic density currents; fast flows of hot particles and gas that decimated everything within 40 km of the vent.
