REACTOR 2 (IMAGE)
Caption
The transparent mPC bioreactors developed by Rice University and Baylor College of Medicine allow for easy imaging of interactions between intestinal cell cultures and bacteria or other pathogens. These microscope images show stained epithelial cells infected with enteroaggregative Escherichia coli with and without flow through the mPCs after 8 hours. The images show bacteria inserted without flow aggregated into small clusters (left), but formed biofilms when flow was present (center and right). The scale bars are 30 microns.
