SPLEEM Images of Magnetization in Ultrathin Layered Materials (IMAGE)
Caption
In these images developed using the SPLEEM instrument at Berkeley Lab, the orientation of magnetization in samples containing cobalt (Co) and ruthenium (Ru) is represented with white arrows. The image at left shows the orientation in a sample that also includes a layer of atomically thin carbon, called graphene ("Gr"). The scale bar at the lower right of both images is 1 micron, or 1 millionths of a meter.
