The oligo-TetraPEG hydrogel remains transparent, while conventional gels turn opaque or cloudy over time. Scientists demonstrated the long-term safety of the hydrogel, which was injected into rabbit eyes after removal of their vitreous, and observing no side effects or rejection by the body for over a year. The researchers also successfully treated retinal detachment by injecting the gel into rabbit eyes.
