Founded by an Irish Catholic priest in the aftermath of deadly 2007-08 post-election violence (Kenya's next national elections take place Aug. 8), Nairobi-based Shalom Centre has successfully helped to foster peace between 11 ethnic groups of Northern Kenya, where assault rifles are as common in households as cooking pots.
