Infrared imagery on Sept. 28 at 2:54 a.m. EDT (0654) from the VIIRS instrument aboard NASA-NOAA's Suomi NPP satellite showed a burst of strong convection containing cloud top temperatures colder than minus degrees 70 Celsius/minus 94F (red) had developed just east of the center.
