Joy Division (IMAGE) Walter and Eliza Hall Institute Caption Cell division is a carefully orchestrated process required for all tissues, including cancers, to grow and repair. This series of images provides a detailed view of liver cells at various stages of cell division. The chromosomes, containing DNA, are shown in blue. As cells divide, the chromosomes are pulled into the daughter cells by the mitotic spindle, shown in magenta. Cancer cells depend on the integrity of this process to grow rapidly and spread. We have identified a gene capable of disrupting this orderly procession and we are currently testing whether it could represent a viable target for cancer therapy.
