New method -- computational hydrographic printing -- offers a precision never before attained (IMAGE)
Caption
Researchers at Columbia Engineering and Zhejiang University in China develop new method -- computational hydrographic printing -- that physically aligns a surface color texture onto a 3D surface with a precision never before attained. In this image, the object to be decorated is being immersed in the controlled system by a gripper connected at one end of a vertically placed aluminum rod. Driven by a linear motor, the rod can move upward or downward at a constant speed. A 3D vision system is integrated to measure the location and orientation of the object with respect to the color film.
