A Stick Insect of the Timema Genus Blends with is Surroundings (IMAGE)
Caption
A plant-eating stick insect of the imema genus blends with its surroundings to hide from hungry predators. The stout bug was used as a research model by Utah State University evolutionary biologist Zach Gompert and colleagues to explore how new species form. The researchers report insights on the multi-faceted evolutionary process in a Feb. 17, 2017 paper in Nature Ecology & Evolution.
