Integrated Blood-Barcode Chip (IMAGE)
Caption
An optical micrograph of the chip itself, showing the region on the chip from which the plasma is separated from the whole blood. Whole blood cells can be seen traveling down the wider channel. The thinner channels are the plasma skimming channels. Channel dimensions: large channel ~50 micrometer wide; skimming channels ~10 micrometers wide. The barcode at the bottom of the drawing represents a panel of about 10 proteins that were measured from a fingerprick of blood within the 10 minute time from from fingerprick to completion of the critical assay steps. This particular chip, which was about the size of a microscope slide, contained regions for 8 separate fingerprick assays.
