Implantable vagus nerve stimulators can relieve depression in some patients who can't be helped by standard antidepressant therapies. Now researchers at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis have found that those stimulators appear to bring about changes in brain activity weeks, or even months, before those depressed patients begin to feel better.
