Protein Illustration (IMAGE) University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee Caption In this illustration, the structure of a crystallized protein (center) changes as it reacts to light (coming from left). The X-ray laser beam (coming from the bottom) hits the crystal, diffracting photons, which allowed scientists to recreate a 3-D snapshot of the protein. Structural changes correspond to the protein's function.
