Pyrenochaeta sp. DS3sAY3a Growing in Liquid Culture (IMAGE)
Caption
Pyrenochaeta sp. DS3sAY3a growing in liquid culture. As the fungus grows, brown-colored manganese oxides are formed. Here, the oxides can be seen associated with biomass and suspended in solution. This was part of the work done for a study reported July 19, 2016 in Plos ONE and made possible through a collaborative science program called FICUS (details at http://jgi.doe.gov/user-program-info/community-science-program/how-to-propose-a-csp-project/emsl/).
