Methane Hydrate Cores (IMAGE)

These cylinders hold cores of sediments rich in natural gas hydrates taken from depths of up to 1,500 feet (450 meters) beneath the Gulf of Mexico seafloor. The University of Texas at Austin Pressure Core Center is the only university -based facility equipped to study them under the conditions in which they are found.
