People with Alzheimer's disease also tend to have problems with their circadian clocks, which regulate patterns of rest and activity. Washington University researchers have shown that disrupted sleep can be a risk factor for alzheimer's disease. And now, some of those same researchers have shown that people who are cognitively normal, but who have preclinical alzheimer's pathology, also have circadian rhythm disruptions.
