A Model for Maturation of piRNAs by 3'-end Trimming of Precursor RNAs

Model of piRNA maturation supported by the present study. Papi recruits PIWI proteins loaded with precursor piRNAs to the surface of the mitochondrial membrane. Papi further binds to pre-piRNAs and creates an optimal platform for Trimmer to access their 3' ends, allowing Trimmer to trim pre-piRNAs to the mature piRNA length.
