The MMT Telescope is located on Mount Hopkins, 47 miles south of Tucson. When the telescope was completed in 1979, it was called the Multiple-Mirror Telescope, as it was comprised of six smaller mirrors. The smaller mirrors were replaced by a single 6.5-meter mirror in 2000, but the name MMT was retained.
