Rice University researchers found that adsorption of transferrin to the nylon interface in chromatography (top) induces the partial unfolding of the protein (bottom). That unfolding is enhanced in the presence of salt. Controlling the process could help build better models to predict protein separation, a critical process in drug manufacture.
