Large, rotating turbines like the ones at Hoover Dam provide overall grid stability. As the mix of power sources going into the grid shifts to include more solar and wind, which don’t contribute inertia, the grid’s stability is also shifting. For that reason, hydropower’s role has become even more critical for a resilient grid.
