Metamaterial Lidar (IMAGE) Duke University Caption In a new type of object identification, a radio wave source (back panel) creates a wave front (middle panel) that is shaped by a metamaterial screen which allows waves to pass through in some places but not others (front panel). Machine learning then finds the wave shapes that illuminate the most useful features of an object. The method improves accuracy while reducing computing time and power requirements.
