Joshua Weitz, an assistant professor in the School of Biology at the Georgia Institute of Technology, conducted a meta-analysis of bacteria-virus infections and found they exhibited a nested structure. Hard-to-infect bacteria were infected by generalist viruses and easy-to-infect bacteria were attacked by both generalist and specialist viruses.
