120 億年前の宇宙に見つかった「静かな」銀河

画像中央の白丸の中にある赤い天体が今回発見されたもの。分光観測によって銀河の中の星の運動を調べた結果、銀河の「核」をなす部分は 120 億年前にはすでにできあがっていたことがわかりました。
