FAU Researchers Find New Mechanism Cells Use to Eat Other Before They Become Toxic (VIDEO)
Caption
Observations of lens epithelial cells. Live cell imaging of lens epithelial cells that appear to be engulfing extracellular material, the cells are stained with αB-crystallin (green), a protein expressed at high levels in lens epithelial cells. This initial observation led the researchers to hypothesize that lens epithelial cells could control their environment by removing toxic extracellular debris. The video was made by time-lapse confocal microscopy.
