CGT and Adhesive Tape (IMAGE)

Progressively thinner flakes of a van der Waals material--shown is chromium germanium telluride (CGT)--are created by repeatedly peeling off layers with adhesive tape. Berkeley Lab researchers have discovered intrinsic ferromagnetism in 2-D layers of this material.
