Caption
Mansi Kasliwal, assistant professor of astronomy at Caltech, is the principal investigator on the GROWTH project -- a coordinated northern network of astronomers and telescopes that aims to improve our understanding of cosmic transients. These extremely bright flashes of light appear suddenly in the night sky, shining like new stars, a million to a billion times brighter than the sun, and then quickly fade away.
