Observed vs Predicted (IMAGE) Penn State Caption Multi-scale models of drug resistance can simulate drug treatment and failure for virtual populations. Accurate models allow prediction of which resistance alleles will be the most common, and therefore the most clinically significant. These simulations could allow forecasting of the population-scale picture of drug resistance, even before a drug reaches the clinic. Each color represents a different resistance allele. Points that lie close to the dashed gray line are allele frequencies accurately predicted by the model.
