The Relation Between Star Formation Activity and Size

Red circles and blue double-circles represent the galaxies with single- and double-component ACS sources, respectively. The research team's idea that most of the galaxies consist of two (or more) interacting small galaxies with small angular separation is also illustrated, which explains the observed trend very well.
