These are images of yeast cells responding to a pheromone stimulus in which the G gamma brake system is intact (left) or genetically turned off (right). In both images, the green color indicates the location of the effector protein that accumulates at the cellular membrane as a result of the stimulus, and was achieved by genetically tagging the effector protein with green fluorescent protein (GFP).
