The Cahaba River (IMAGE)

The Cahaba River, shown here near the Bibb County, Ala. rediscovery site, is home to 121 species of fish, 38 species of mussels and 32 species of snails. A freshwater snail declared extinct in 2000 was recently rediscovered in the river by a University of Alabama graduate student.
