Shape Reconfigurable Liquid Metal (VIDEO)
Caption
Liquid metals have very large surface tensions that causes them to assume a spherical shape. Researchers have shown that the deposition of a surface oxide lowers the surface tension dramatically, causing the metal to change shape. The oxide can also be removed using modest voltages, allowing huge changes in surface tension using low voltages.
