Seed Corridor (IMAGE)
Caption
This aerial view of a conservation corridor experiment in South Carolina shows four "patches" of habitat carved from pine forest. Ellen Damschen and colleagues measured and modeled how wind moves seeds through habitats with different shapes. They saw the greatest movement among the dumbbell-shaped patches, which are connected by a conservation corridor. Damschen is an assistant professor of zoology at University of Wisconsin-Madison.
