Rice University graduate student Thomas Heiderscheit demonstrates a technique to amplify the light from small concentrations of molecules on a surface by maximizing the spectral overlap between the emission and the plasmon resonance of adjacent nanoparticles. The glowing molecules can be clearly seen in the sample when excited.
