Researchers Valerie Trouet of the University of Arizona, Grant Harley of the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg and Marta Domínguez-Delmás of the University of Santiago de Compostela in Lugo, Spain, and the University of Huelva in Spain used this detailed tally of shipwrecks to create a records of Caribbean hurricanes going back to the year 1500.
